About Me

Shannon Woods, MSW, LCSW

Hello!  I’m Shannon, a licensed clinical social worker who specializes in trauma and ambiguous loss. I underwent EMDR training in 2023 and enjoy seeing the changes that occur when one begins to process and heal from past traumas.  Having endured my fair share of trauma, you can be sure you are working with someone who truly “gets it” when you partner with me.  Though our situations may vary, the feelings are always the same.  Working with me, your therapeutic journey will be personally tailored to fit your needs and goals.  I not only utilize traditional talk therapy, but also a combination of IFS, EMDR, CBT, Play Therapy, and Art Therapy.  I work with all ages, from children to octogenarians, and with a multitude of issues, including:

  • Anxiety, Depression, Trauma, PTSD, and Grief

  • Identity Issues, including Adoptees, NPEs, LGBTQIA+, Body and Gender Dysmorphia

  • Life Transitions, Attachment Issues, Chronic Illness, and Emotional Dysregulation

When working with me, you can expect authenticity, compassion, respect, and a genuine curiosity to truly get to know you as a person.  We are all unique, having our own idiosyncrasies and quirks, and therapy is truly no different.  I will walk alongside you on your therapeutic journey, empowering you every step of the way.

  • Education:  Bachelor of Social Work, Aurora University 2018

  • Master of Social Work, Aurora University 2019

  • Credentials: Licensed Social Worker, 2019

  • Licensed Clinical Social Worker, 2024

Outside of the Office:

When I am not in the therapist role, I enjoy spending time outdoors, whether walking, hiking, or forest bathing, as well as spending time with my husband and my teenage son.  I am trying to become an avid reader and welcome all suggestions, and I also enjoy live music (Brandi Carlile is my favorite). I enjoy traveling and am trying to incorporate more of this into my life.  I also enjoy being creative in whatever capacity strikes my fancy.  Fun fact: I just started learning to play the cello this year!  Aside from that, I enjoy spending time with animals of all varieties.  I have goals of adopting 20 dogs, as well as having a catio.
